Our Story

DWish Institute Story
EST. 2019

Every meaningful journey begins with compassion, purpose, and a deep urge to create change. DWish Institute for Special Needs was born with a very clear and sincere vision: to provide a secure, inclusive, and enabling space for children and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities to respect, assist, and inspire the fulfillment of their potential.

DWish operates under AKB Memorial Trust, a registered non-profit organization (Registration No: IV 190201062/2019), with a mandate to work towards social welfare and community development. The trust was set up with the aim of serving society in the spaces that exist in care, education, and support of individuals in need.

Thus, the journey of DWish started on 8th September 2019, when a few enthusiastic professionals and mentors came together to address a raising need of parents that was realized as an urgent requirement: to let their children have a place where their children could be safe, secure, understood, and nurtured with structured therapy, education, and skill development. DWish was formally registered under AKB Memorial Trust in November 2019, strengthening its foundation and commitment as a credible social welfare organization.

Located in the heart of Kolkata, DWish stands today as a trusted multidisciplinary therapy centre and pre-vocational and vocational training centre for young adults and children with neurodevelopmental challenges.

Our vision is to enable children and young adults affected by neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their lives in a purposeful, confident, and self-determining manner. We want a society where abilities are honored and which supports people with disabilities in becoming active members within their families and communities.

Our mission is to offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary support that caters to the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and communicative needs of each and every individual. We try to help our children acquire life skills through therapy, education, vocational training, and emotional support, which would inculcate independence, self-esteem, and happiness.

Extending Support Beyond the Therapy Room

DWish is a social enterprise initiative of AKB Memorial Trust, and its essence is social welfare. The services are extended beyond the clinical intervention and education to families, communities, and less privileged sections of society.

Some of the social welfare initiatives in which we are involved include:

Free parent counseling to address emotional wellness
Parent support groups that foster shared learning and strength
Workshops and training programs for parents, caregivers, and professionals
Online therapy and guidance in the case of children from remote or unreachable areas
Awareness programmes for the reduction of stigma due to neurodevelopmental disabilities
